Claude: the careful writer and coder
Claude is made by Anthropic. Its newest public model, Claude Fable 5.1, arrived in September 2026, followed by Claude Opus 5.5, a faster and cheaper model for everyday heavy work. Anthropic describes Fable 5.1 as its most advanced model for coding and knowledge work.
Where Claude shines:
- Coding and websites. Claude consistently ranks at or near the top for software work, and it can work directly inside tools like WordPress and Breakdance.
- Long documents. It handles contracts, reports and large briefs well, and keeps track of detail.
- Natural writing. Many people find Claude’s writing less generic and easier to edit into their own voice.
- Privacy controls. Whether your chats are used for training is your choice.
Where it is weaker: Claude does not create images, and its consumer app has fewer extras, such as voice and image tools, than ChatGPT.
ChatGPT: the all-rounder
ChatGPT, made by OpenAI, is the most widely used AI assistant in the world. It passed 900 million weekly users in early 2026. Everyday chats run on the GPT-5 family, and in September 2026 OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra, a flagship model for long, multi-step work, to its higher-priced plans.
Where ChatGPT shines:
- Features. Image generation, voice conversations, memory, custom GPTs and an agent that can browse and complete tasks are all in one app.
- Plan choice. It has the widest range of plans, from a generous free tier through to Pro plans for heavy users.
- Familiarity. Your team has probably already used it, so there is less to learn.
Where it is weaker: its newest flagship model is reserved for higher-priced plans, and its writing can sound generic unless you guide it carefully.
Gemini: the Google-connected option
Gemini is Google’s AI, built into Gmail, Docs, Sheets and the rest of Google Workspace. The app runs on the Gemini 3 family, including Gemini 3.6 Flash, released in July 2026. On 30 September 2026 Google announced Gemini 4 Argon, though it is currently limited to a small group of security partners.
Where Gemini shines:
- Google Workspace. If your business runs on Gmail and Google Drive, Gemini can work with your files where they already are.
- Big inputs. A very large context window lets it read long documents, spreadsheets and even videos in one go.
- Value. Google AI Pro includes 5 TB of cloud storage, and there is a cheaper AI Plus plan.
Where it is weaker: outside Google’s own apps it feels less polished, and its newest model is not yet widely available.
Which AI should your business choose?
There is no single winner. The right choice depends on what you need most:
- Choose Claude if your work involves websites, code, long documents or writing that needs to sound like you.
- Choose ChatGPT if you want one app that does a bit of everything, including images and voice.
- Choose Gemini if your team lives in Google Workspace and you want AI inside the tools you already use.
Many businesses use more than one. A common setup is ChatGPT or Gemini for everyday questions, and Claude for writing and technical work. For a wider look at the market, see our guide to AI assistants compared.
Claude vs ChatGPT vs Gemini: frequently asked questions
Which is better, Claude or ChatGPT?
It depends on the job. Claude is usually the stronger choice for coding, website work, long documents and writing that needs to sound natural. ChatGPT is the better all-rounder, with image generation, voice and the widest range of plans. Many businesses use both.
Is Gemini better than ChatGPT for business?
Gemini is the better fit if your team works in Gmail, Google Docs and Google Drive, because it can work with your files where they already live. If you use Microsoft 365 or want the most features in one app, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot may suit you better.
Are Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini free?
All three have free plans with daily limits. Their main paid plans cost around US$20 a month, and each offers higher-priced plans for heavy users and teams.
Is it safe to put business information into an AI assistant?
Check each provider’s privacy settings before you start. Business and team plans usually give stronger data protection, and you can turn off training on your chats in Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. As a rule, avoid pasting in private customer data unless your plan protects it.
